This mixed media art piece is inspired by a time of my life when things seemed to be pulled apart. My parents were separating, and I felt like my reality was shifting, and my world was being pulled apart. What I thought my childhood was like felt ripped away from who I was as an adult, and I had to reconcile parts of myself, learning my story and how I wanted to move forward. That’s what the portrait of this girl looks ripped apart, and the neon sludge comes dripping out of the pieces. Still, change can be beautiful and not all bad, and that’s why I included the butterflies.
