The title of this mixed media piece comes from the plant of the same name, which has been thought to be the type of plant that was used for the crown of thorns for Jesus. I wanted to depict these as flowering blossoms atop Jesus’ bleeding face, adding color and history to His portrait. I hope that this moves those who see it, and are reminded of the life that Jesus’ death brought to us, the growth and abundance that can come out of death and thorns.
