Original, one of a kind mixed media illustration of Guillermo del Toro’s 2025 adaptation of Frankenstein.
This 9 “ x 12” artwork is made with watercolors, colored pencils, and ink on bristol paper. I wanted to feature the relationship between The Creature and Elizabeth. The large green electrical units contrast with elegant and opulent candelabras. The darkness and heavy clothing of The Creature feel heavy, while Elizabeth’s brilliant white wedding dress effortlessly floats along the bottom of the page. The ornate glass window of the fortress frames Elizabeth like a halo. Floating between mid-point of the image that separates the two characters is a butterfly to the left and a leaf on the right. The butterfly symbolizes the lack of control and constraints on both characters, while the leaf is a symbol of their connection to each other.
