Longing for Another World, Gothic Christian Aesthetic, Grayscale Postcard Art Print

$15.00

Do you know that sense of longing, but it never feels satisfied even when you think you’ve attained something? C.S. Lewis spoke to this feeling, saying "If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world" in Mere Christianity. In his partial autobiography, Surprised by Joy, he terms this “sehnsucht” a German word meaning the sense of inconsolable longing, yearning, and the feeling of intensely missing something we don’t know specifically what it is. Inspired by these quotes and recognizing my own feelings like this, I created this piece to represent the longing, shown in the woman’s face. Many things around her symbolize the beauty of the world, such as in the ornate cathedral, lace dress, and delicate butterflies, but also hint at death, showing that it will not last, in the skull, the crow, and the unfinished wisterias. She holds in her hand a key, symbolizing the keys to heaven, which will last eternally. This intricate grayscale drawing will be a beautiful reminder of these ideas and conversation starter for anyone that likes to think deeply about our existence.

This 5 ×5 postcard-size art print is made with heavyweight card stock, signed and shipped by the artist. It is a perfect size for gifting, adding to a gallery wall, or displaying in a small space. The art might be small, but the impact is big!
