Nightmares, Original Drawing
Do you suffer from nightmares, or vivid and intense dreams? It can be really scary when something seems so real, and even seeps into your waking life, following you from the unconscious. I made this black and white drawing to represent this feeling, with fears and bad dreams symbolized by animals such as the death's head hawkmoth, a snake, a bat, and an owl. The candles along the bottom and the girl’s nightgown allude to a romantic gothic story, because I like to change my perspective on the bad things and see them as part of a story. Despite its morbid subject, I hope that it brings comfort to the viewer. Even though there are bad thoughts and dreams, in ways we sometimes can’t control, we can still trust in God’s protection. The drawing is also inspired by Psalm 91, where scripture says God will protect us: “You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day.” Display this piece in your home to be reminded of His goodness!
