One of a kind, mixed media artwork featuring a collage of imagery symbolizing the story of Swan Lake. Using watercolor, colored pencils, and ink on bristol paper, I referenced a paper collage to draw this image. The music notes allude to the musical component of the ballet, a strong part of the story in today’s understanding of the tale. The swans, the moon over the pond, and the mask represent the change that princess has to go through from human to swan. The stained-glass window alludes to the fact that the prince loves her but does not know her, so the castle is something the princess is outside of and far from. All these images surround the main character, a rendered portrait of a woman in a feather-like ballet outfit, complete with a crown.
I wanted to embody this piece with a sense of softness and ethereal transcendence. The story of swan lake is a beautiful music piece, a graceful ballet performance, and a touching story.
